Based in Cardigan Bay, Wales, Howies was sold to Timberland in 2006, which was then subsequently bought out by the VF Group in 2011 making the brand an extremely small part of the overall VF brand portfolio. Howies was originally founded in London by husband and wife team David and Claire Hieatt, and was one of the first UK brands to use organic cotton and recycled materials in its collections. It also broke ground by launching an organic cotton denim line dyed using only natural indigo grown in Tokushima Prefecture of Shikoku Island in Japan. David Hieatt left the business back in 2009, while it was still under the ownership of Timberland, but throughout 2011 he had gradually worked on buying back Howies to become a standalone unit again. Speaking to the Sunday Times newspaper, Hieatt said, “While everybody was crunching the big numbers, Howies’ management quietly bought back the business. We thank VF for giving us the opportunity to be small again.” Tip: OrganicPortal UK - Organic Clothing, Cotton & Textiles 28.01.2012 TOP 3 most read news: UK: Eating organic can help boost health, expert claims Besuchen Sie OrganicPortal Newsroom Deutschland
