| Austria: Organic menus for Salzburg care homes Source: austriantimes.at Old people’s homes in the city of Salzburg in Austria are transforming their menus to all organic fare. Institutions for child care went organic some time ago in the area and thousands of elderly people are soon to benefit also. According to ORF and Deputy Mayor Matin Panosch, the city has not been able to provide organic food for care homes up until now. "The price difference between conventional food and organic products was previously relatively large. In addition there was a logistical problem of implementing it nationwide. The price difference has now become much smaller. This in turn makes it much easier to introduce it to all homes", explained Panosch. Panosch believes that this conversion to organic food will also involve educating the older generations, "so that the elderly don’t believe that they have to say goodbye to their much loved eating habits". One home in particular will be a pioneer of the project. The kitchens at Hellbrunn care home in Salzburg have been organic since 2008, a trend which numerous other locations now plan to follow.
