| Canada: Organic growers gather in city for Eco Farm Day Feb. 25-26 Source: standard-freeholder.com CORNWALL — Being in the agricultural business these days can be tough, but they can learn a lot through networking and workshops during Eco Farm Day 2012. The Canadian Organic Growers, Ottawa chapter, will be hosting their annual Eco Farm Day at the Ramada Inn and Conference Centre on Feb. 25-26. Eco Farm Day 2012 is a learning and networking conference for organic agriculture and food producers in eastern Ontario and the surrounding areas which more than 350 participants return for yearly. Organic, transitional and conventional farmers of field crops, market gardens and livestock rely on this event for training information and commerce opportunities. Among the networking and workshops will be a variety of keynote speakers, including Randy Whitteker, general manager of the Ontario Natural Food Co-op, who will discuss the markets and opportunities for local farmers and food processors. Lucy Sharratt, of the Canadian Biotechnology Action Network, will be speaking in the evening about genetics modification; and Steve Beauchesne. of Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co. will be talking about his brewery which has remained in the family while building a solid brand in a tough competitive market. Registration for the conference on Saturday is $20 for COG members or $50 plus HST. Additional fees apply for optional registration for the evening gala on Saturday and the Grower-Buyer Forum on Sunday.
